ME mums

The ME mums are a group of women who meet regularly every six weeks or so. We are based in Hove, Brighton, Rottingdean and Shoreham and we meet at each other's houses mainly, although we have been known to make a foray into the occasional restaurant or pub . We have never said that Dads cannot come, and they are more than welcome to join us, onlyMEmums1 traditionally it has always been Mums. We first met a few years ago at a conference in Hove about ME, organised by the Sussex and Kent ME Society and by Ayme. As parents of young people with ME we all felt very isolated and fell about each other's necks with cries of "Yes that happens to us too..." and immediately bonded over a jam tart and a cup of coffee! It has been very theraputic to be able to contact people who REALLY know how you are feeling as a carer/parent. And yes, of course, it is awful for the person with ME, but the parents suffer too. And this support group has been a real lifeline to us. We have made some incredibly good friends here, and the young people with ME have become friends too. We go through the highs and lows of ups and downs in health, new treatments, press releases, books etc. We don't just talk about ME, we do discuss other things too. We've had a fancy dress party, a barbecue, a wedding and a seventies party, to name but a few.

So if you are feeling isolated as a carer/parent do get in touch and we will do our best to support and advise you,
